Abstract

Three species of the five recognized in the genus Schizophyllum were identified in the Mexican
Republic: Schizoplryllum commune, S. fasciatum, and S. umbrinum. A key of the studied species is
included. The geographical distribution, and some data on the ecological relations according to the types
of vegetation an: indicated for these species. Several aspects on the ethnomycological, biological and
economic importance of the genus, are pointed out
