Isolation and characterization of hybrids from Mexican strains of Pleurotus ostreatus

Abstract

Three different Mexican strains of Pleurotus ostreatus from the Xalapa
región, State of Veracruz, were crossed between them. Pairings amongst the
strains INIREB-20 x 29 and INIREB-6 x 20 showed 100% compatibility, while the
pairingof INIREB-6x 29 showed 62.5%. Five different A factors, and six different B
factors were determined in the studied fungí. The 12 hybrids examined showed
different growthvrates and colony densities ¡n respect to the parental strains. These
hybrids are considered as fertile.
