Mycelial growth of three Mexican strains of L9ntinus boryanus and four asiatic
strains of Lentinus edodes was studied on pure coffee pulp and coffee pulp mixed with
wood shavings of Carpinus caroliniana and Quercus candicans. The experiment was
made in Petri dishes which were incubated at 25 •c under darkness. Results showed the
fastest growth of both species on wood shavings of Carpinus caroliniana, but the mycelia
showed their most vigorous growth on pure coffee pulp and mixed coffee pulp. These
results give the possibility to use coffee pulp for growing lignicolous mushrooms
