Abstract

Three Mexican strains of Pleurotus ostreatus were hybridized with one strain
from Guatemala. Pairings among the four mating t ypes of each strain showed 100 %
compatibility. Unilateral dikaryotization was observed in 27 of the 96 compatible
matings; where some mating types of both Mexican and Guatemalan s trains, s erved as
donors or acceptors of nuclei. It is suggested that such deviation in the sexual
cycle, could indicate the appearance of a genetic barrier between both populations.
