The technique of culture píate exposition is widely used in the atmospheric fungi studies. It is
interesting to find out new appropriate substratos to be used in the isolation and identification of the fungi.
The gum exúdales, hydrocolloids, acidic heteropolysaccharides, constituted of galactose, arabinose,
rhamnose, glucuronic acid and 4-0-methyl-glucuronic acid, are a viable alternative to be used as substrato by
fungus cultivation. The study was carried out in Maracaibo, Zulia State, Venezuela. The gum exúdales from
Cedrela odorata ("cedro") and Laguncularia racemosa ("mangle blanco") were tested as a substrate. The
mycology slandard melhods were used in Ihis study. Sabouraud Dexlrose Agar was Ihe reference subslrate.
The results obtained showed that Ihe frecuency of isolaled genera was comparable in the three tested culture.
Aspergillus, Penicillium, Bipolaris, Fusaríum and Cladosporíum were isolaled predominantly.
Reproducibility study of the morphologic characterislics was done on species Aspergillus parasíticas,
Penicillium citrinum, Bipolaris hawaüensis and Fusaríum oxysporum. These species showed the same
behaviour in all Ihe experiments (five successive cullures). The gum exúdales from C. odorata and L.
racemosa is a good allernalive which may compete with Sabouraud in the invesligation of almospheric fungi.
