Study and isolation of the fungus cultivated by the ants of the genus Atta in Mexico

Phial ocl adus zsoltii Kreisel (Fungi Imperfect!) was studied from the mycelial
mass cultivated by ~ th8 genus ~ in their anthills from Cordoba and Xalapa
regions i n the State of Veracruz. The fungus was developed and cultivated in the la
boratory on ita natural medium and artificial media, in which the conidial stage _was
obtained. This i s the first r ecord of the speci es in Mexico, only known so far
from Cuba. Probably, this is the impert"ect stage of Leucocoprinus gongylopborus
(~11 . ) Heim f rom Brazil .
