An elhnologkal and mycological study of the Chignahuapan región (State
of Puebla) is presentecl. In this región diere is a church where a fungus is
the principal pan in the cult. This church was built specially for this cult.
The l'ungus is Ganoderma lobnlum (Schw.) Atk., lignicole species remote
Irom the hallucinogenic fungí. However, the authors of this paper have the
suspicion oí the use of the hallucinogenic fungi in the NE of the región oí
Chignahuapan, because in that región there are ecological conditions for the
growth of hallucinogenic fungi. The "honguito" that is the ñame of the fungus
of the church, was found in a forest near Chignahuapan in the last Century.
The fungus carries on its face an arresting sketch where a Christ with a sun
and nioon is shown, and the number "80" is more or less evident.
