The most important diseases on the stored oranges in warehouses in a
market of México City were studied. These diseases are: 1) soft rot produced
by Penicillium digitatum and P. italicum, 2) anthracnose by Colletotrichum
gloeosporioides, 3) melanose by Plioma sp., 4) black rot by Al ternaria citri,
5) rot oí the insertion of the peduncle by Fusarium sp. and Cercosporella sp.
and 6) eventual rot by Aspergillus carbonarius. Of these the soft rot is the
most important for its high incidence and the great deterioration of the oranges,
reducing their economic valué. The rest of the diseases of the oranges are of
no economic importante. In the control experiments it was demostrated that
the use of fungicides is the most useful way to control the fungal diseases
of the oranges, principally the soft rot. Berlate, Dam and Euparem were the
fungicides more effective with 100% of rendiment. But Captan, Ossamonio
C-B, Manzate D, Saprol and Vitavax presented a rendiment of 85%, 80%,
25%, 85% and 30% each one.
