Abstract

Candidiasis is a mycotic infection and the most important etiological agent is
Candida albicans, a commensal of the mucosae in human beings. The clinical manifestations
are usually limited to skin, nails, mucosae and gastrointestinal tract, it rarely can be systemic
and affect multiple internal organs. The purpose of this paper is to review and describe the
mycological characteristics of Candida`s infections, its predisposing factors, as well as its
pathogenesis and mycological diagnosis. We also include the current available
pharmacological treatments.
