Effect of fungistatic compounds on some strains of Suillus

Abstract

Fifteen strains of Sui/Ius were grown on potato-dextrose-agar added with one of the following fungitoxic
compounds: benomyl 10 mglml; cicloheximide 2 mg/ml; rose bengal 10 mglml; malachite green 2 mg/ml; and
sodium chloride 10 mg/ml. Each fungitoxic compound was tested by triplicate. After five weeks, colonial
growths were measured, compared with the control without fungitoxic, and classified as tolerant when the
growth was higher than 50%, semitolerant with a growth between 20 and 50%, and sensitive with a growth
lesser than 20%. All the isolates were tolerant to sodiumchloride; fourteen were tolerant and just one was
semitolerant to benomyl; response to malachite green was from semitolerant to tolerant; in bengal rose, the
response was variable; in cicloheximide, twelve strains were sensitive, two tolerant, and one semitolerant.
