Abstract

The complex Psathyrella velutina (Pers. : Fr.) Sing. ssnsu lato is discussed, as well as the status
of P. sepulchralis Sing., Smith et Guzm&l, and new information on P. hypertropicalis GuzmAn, Banda Ia et
Montoya is included. P. velutina sensu stricto includes two species: 1) P. lacrymabwda(Bull. : Fr.) Moser,
an European and North American species with moderate vGmJCose spores and no germinal tube,
according to the study of the specimen Fungi Exsiccati Suecici 21, identWied as "Lacrymaria velutina (Pars.
: Fr.) Pat. ... Hypholoma lacrymabundurn (BuN. : Fr.) ... • by LundeU, and 2) P. pseudovelutina GuzmAn,
Bandala et Montoya, which is here described as a new species; the later also presents moderately
verrucose spores but a long and conspicuous germinal tube is distinguished; the species is known from
Mexico, U.S.A., Europe, Japan, and probably from the north of Africa
P. sepulchraliswas compared with Lacrymariaasperospora(Ciel.) Watling from Australia and it was
concluded that the former is a synonym of the later, adscribed to Psathyrella under a new combination:
P. asperospora {Ciel) GuzmAn, Bandala et Montoya; this species is recorded from new localities in the
States of Nuevo Leon and Veracruz (Mexico). P. hypertropicaliswas described from the State of Veracruz
and it is recorded here from Jalisco and Morelos and new information on ks morphological varlalions is
presented. P. hypertropfcalis var. pubescens GuzmAn, Bandala et Montoya and P. hypertropicalis var.
microtubulata GuzmAn. Band ala et Montoya are described as new varieties, the former from Nuevo Leon
and the later from Morelos and the State of Mexico. A key to the taxa discussed here is provided.
