Abstract

A brief description of the development concerning fungal studies in Mexico is presented, since the
beginning of prehispanic times until present, w~h emphasis on macromycetes and their rootage among
different ethnic groups of the country. The actual state of mycology, its problems and prospectives are also
.analyzed.
