A revicw o[ the litera ture oí' stuclies on mycoviruscs rcali/'cd in foreign is
mndc, particularly about viva! discascs of ínngi. Il has bccn sho-wn that mycoviruses
are lalcnt in fungí cclls, and that thcy lio not prcscnt thc lypical virulence
o£ others viruses. Nevertheless, viral diseases in fungí ha ve bccn discovcred, such
as in Agaricus bispons, pfdminllinspomim vic.loriiut, Pi'.stnlolin s|>., and Podospora
tinscrina. Slow growth 'in Ncurospora crnssa and in soine spccics of Penicilliurn
has bccn as.sociated with the prescncc of viral pariides. Thc inycovirtises
may become important in biological control programs of phyíopatliogcnic fungí,
as in thc case of Op/iiobolus gi-aminis or in inducing resisicncc lo vinil diseases
in ccrtuin plañís as has been obscrvcd in Tlñclnviopsis basteóla.
