In order to contribute to the knowledge of fungal diversity in the state of Oaxaca, a taxonomic revision of macrofungi collected during
the rainy season from 2008 to 2010 in the Municipality of San Gabriel Mixtepec, located in the coastal region of Oaxaca, was made.
Four hundred and thirty four specimens were collected according to conventional techniques for the study of macroscopic fungi. The
specimens correspond to 290 morphospecies, of which 128 were determined taxonomically to species. 256 morphs are listed in the
Basidiomycota and 34 in the Ascomycota. The Agaricales represent about 43 % of all morphs recognized in this work leading to the
conclusion that this group may constitute about half of the diversity of macrofungi in this region. Based on all morphs studied, the genera
Russula, Marasmius, and Xylaria have the greatest number of species, which is due to the characteristics of the studied area such
as vegetation type and high moisture. The knowledge on the distribution of 128 species for the municipality of San Gabriel Mixtepec is
extended and the number of species now reported for the coastal region is increased to 150.
