The purpose of this study was to evaluate the cultivation of Pleurotus djamor in
a community of the rural area of Yucatan. Biological efficiency (BE), production rate
(PR) and biodegradation rate (BR) of the native strain Pleurotus djamor (UADY-19) were
measured in three substrates: corn stubble (CS), squash stubble (SS), and sisal bagasse
(SB) in the Edible Mushrooms Laboratory of the FMVZ-UADY and in a tropical rural house
located in Dzidzantun, Yucatan. The sowing was done by site, using bags with 400g of
substrate and 20g of spawn. The BE was better in the laboratory than in the rural house,
likewise TP to CS in both sites and SB of the rural house were similar. The highest BR was
obtained in the laboratory in the SS (47%).The better substrates for laboratory culture
were SB followed by CS, whereas for the rural house, were SB and CS.
