Some observations on the ecology of the Dermatophytes in the human skin

A population of 4 192 individuáis were studied and divided in two groups:
A) 2 538 vvith dennatophytosis. B) 1 654 persons with healty skin. Samples were
cultivated in Sabouraud media. In patients with dermatophytosis (first group) the
most frequent species were T. rubrum (66.4°/o) and T. mentayrophytes (13.8°/o).
In 12.1°/o of the second group, dermatophytcs were isolated. The greater frequency
was observed in adults (18.4°/o) and T. tonsurans was the most frequent dermatophyte
isolated (62.6°/o). In both groups the more affected corporal regions with
dermatophytes were feet, toenails and scalp.
